  77. |       reports. The serialized disk will not be copy protected, but         |
  78. |       it will be for your own personal use (and is not to be               |
  79. |       distributed to others).  Your registration will also entitle you     |
  80. |       to one additional update when a new version comes out. (A            |

  87. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  88.  
  89. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  90. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  91. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  92. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  93. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  94. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  95. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  97. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  98. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  99. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  100. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  101. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  102. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  103. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  104. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  105. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  106. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  107. Shareware.

  109. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  110. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  111. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  112. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  114. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  115. product, you don't pay for it.

  124. quential, which may result from the use of PixFolio."

  126. PixFolio is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  127. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  128. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  129. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  130. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  131. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  132.

  134. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  135. useful and find that you are using PixFolio and continue to use
  136. PixFolio after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  137. istration payment of $35.00 to Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).
  138. The $35.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
  139. one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just
  140. like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  141. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  142. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  143. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  144. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  145. same time.

  147. Commercial users of PixFolio must register and pay for their
  148. copies of PixFolio within 30 days of first use or their license
  149. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  150. tacting Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).

  152. Anyone distributing PixFolio for any kind of renumeration must
  153. first contact Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) at the address above
  154. for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
  155. to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  156. for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  157. PixFolio immediately (However Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) must
  158. still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with
  159. the latest version of PixFolio.).

  161. You are encouraged to pass a copy of PixFolio along to your
  162. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  163. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  164. will receive a copy of the latest version of the PixFolio
